The Problem With US
You can't cut the silence created by more than just the absence of words.
You can't break the tension that exudes from people separated by more than just differences.
You can't say "Hey, let's kiss, and make up, and move on" when the relationship is two inches away from plummeting into the abyss.
You can't say "I'm sorry" to atone for years of crushing a spirit.
You can't heal cancer with a bandaid.
You can't look at me like I don't have a right to be mad.
You can't play the innocent victim when you are the offending party.
You can't forget the sugar when you make lemonade and be surprised when it's not sweet.
You can't cause something and walk away and never suffer any effects.
You can't forget to love your child and wonder why their life is broken.
You can't tell me to forgive and forget when if I forget it all I'd barely remember my name.
You can't make me do something that I can't.
You can't make me into something that I'm not.
But most of all
You can't steal or break the essence of me because I will not let you...I can't!

i like the concept of what you're writing about, but doesn't using 'can't' give power to the impossibility of some of the things the speaker says can't be done?
enjoyed this post.
of course, i know who you are. :)
WOW!!! you get it...I ran up on that thought as I was writing and I continued on because (like introducing) it's made up of contradictions and thoughts of uncertainty. from this point of view the repetitive using of can't is more to convince the speaker that it will not be done than to throw it at the brick wall that is the listener.
This is pretty intense! I like it, though - I like the play on words and the darkness. Reminds me of my past days (when I actually wrote poetry.)
